I dag...
Sannsynligvis de beste verktøyene i bransjen for grafisk design over hele verden.»
"After working with graphic design for many years, it felt natural to explore surface design. Its only now that I truly start to use my creativity within this area."
Below is a section of the last couple of years of course work with in Surface and Pattern design
Nicola has used Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop since the early 90´s and has held many courses and creative workshops for both private and commercial companies in Norway.
"Adobe software has always been the tools that have allowed me to accomplish what I set out to do and allow me to be as creative as I can, they are probably the best tools in the industry for digital design throughout the world."
“As a designer who has worked within graphic design and advertising, my creative expression is driven by a desire to experiment and push boundaries. I believe that art is a reflection of one's inner self, and for me, that means exploring various forms and mediums. I find joy in the challenge of taking risks and creating something new and unique. Ultimately, my diverse art is a product of my creative curiosity and the need to continually evolve and grow and be creative as an artist."
Print and Pattern Course -Cecile Petersson
Repeat patterns from handrawn to product
Online evening course (live) over 6 weeks and ended in January 2025. Our teacher was Cecilia Pettersson who is a Swedish designer/artist. Cecilia produces designs for the surface design industry producing textiles, wallpaper, gift wrapping, designs for clothes and many other areas.
I decided to take this course to supplement my textile course I did online through Central Saint Martins, London, England. which I finished at the end of 2022. I wanted to focus more on my handrawn skills so I can combine sketch/ digitally the two processes.
Assignment: Theme - Ocean repeat pattern using four small square papers to start the process.

Fundamentals of Graphic Design
This course is part of a Graphic Design Specialisation
About the tutor, Michael Worthington
Faculty, Program in Graphic Design
I did this course as a re-fresher within my skills. After many many years working with Graphic Design and working mostly digitally, I wanted to go back to basic. I really had to push myself and start with paper and pencil for most of the assignments. I was quite out of my comfort zone because it has been many years since I worked like this. I got through the course and I reall enjoyed it and even managed all of the assignments. I think it is important for anyone who works in this industry to sometimes go back to basics, it helps inspire th mind and think out of the box.
Michael Worthington is the founding partner of Counterspace (Los Angeles), a graphic design studio specializing in editorial and identity work for cultural clients. His recent book designs include A New Sculpturalism, Made in L.A. 2012, and More Real, as well as catalogues for Mark Bradford, William Leavitt, Amanda Ross-Ho, Meleko Mokgosi, Alice Konitz and Samara Golden.
His work has been published widely and exhibited in Belgium, Italy, England, the Czech Republic, El Salvador, Japan, France, China and the US, and he has lectured in Korea, Belgium, Holland, Australia, England, France, Mexico and across America. He has been a judge for the California Design Biennial, Output, the AIGA and the ADC and curated the design show “Two Lines Align” at REDCAT. Brief: Looking at algae, seaweed, botanic, substainability, dye, future, colour,
metalics, water.
Assignment 1.Brainstorming, primary and secondary research
Assignment 2. Back to basics
Assignment 3. Ideas and designs for print placement and repeat patterns.
Assignment 1.Brainstorming, primary and secondary research

Assignment 2. Back to basics
Line drawing, mark drawing, drawing with opposite hand and eyes closed. Painting with various items, yarn marking, texture, structure, colours.

Assignment 3. Algae
This design is based on Algae which was one of my main focuses when brainstorming after the brief from the first assignment in the begining of the course. I started to look at structure and how Algae can be used in the textile industry. This design is the result of my research and inspiration. I focused on vibrant complimentarty colours and I felt that the design should appeal to both young male and female. The colours can easily be swopped to create a different colour palette suiting the target group.

Assignment 3. Watching
This design is an idea which started from assignment 2. and mark making and line drawing. I also looked at trending interior and fashion colours for 2023. This assignment really took me out of my comfort zone. I also wanted to create a design that could appeal to both male and female and concentrated my colour palette to four colours. The gold is also very prominent in this design, a colour which I tend to use in most of my earlier designs. The gold is an option and can easily be replaced by another colour

Assignment 3. Neuro 01
Looking at cells from algae, botanical and neurology. For this design I was interested in neurology and neuro cells which were the inspiration and idea for this design. I will be working more to develop this design.

Assignment 3. Abstract Nouveux
Experimenting with the yarn tile I produced for assignment 2. Using Adobe Photoshop to create some interesting results with an Art Nouveau twist and using Adobe Illustrator to convert my Adobe Photoshop file into vector for further experimentation.

Assignment 3. Mixing the past into present
A fusion of James Leman 18th-century textile design, May Morris 19th-century and the present. Yes, I have an obsession with 16th, 18th, 19-century, Art Deco and Art Nouveau. The more I create the past is always present.
